Three weekends, 2700 volunteer hours, and over 400 volunteers (known to many as "Average, Ordinary, Everyday SuperHeroes") changed a school for the better. The heroes gathered at West Houston Charter School in Katy, TX. Their mission? To bring much needed changes and restoration before the 2008 school year.

Compassion Katy, a volunteer center for Katy, organized the event. Projects included digging trenches for drainage, power-washing, landscaping, painting, remodeling, building book shelves, cleaning, and serving water to those working. Each volunteer worked diligently to complete their assigned task.

The Katy Fire Department made an appearance which gave volunteers a much needed break and boosted morale. Chick-fil-A of Katy and Lone Star Kolache generously donated and served lunch to the volunteers. CFA's Cow even made an appearance to show his appreciation for the work the volunteers were doing.

"We want the community at large to know that they can make a difference in their city and have fun doing it," said Diane Walker, Executive Director of CompassionKaty.org. Sponsors included Grace Fellowship, Katy Family YMCA, Grand Lakes Presbyterian, Katy Vineyard, and The Fellowship at Cinco Ranch.

Compassion Katy has helped volunteers and community ministries including Katy Christian Ministries, Breath of Life Children's Clinic, Katy Home Savers, the YMCA, Katy Independent School District, the Krause Center, Pregnancy Help Center, and many more. Their work in the community has been a blessing.
